EMERGENCY
PREPARATIONS / PANDEMIC PREPAREDNESS
As a City, we have
been preparing in the event that Pandemic Influenza becomes a reality.
Our plans focus on delivering essential services to the community. As a
part of our preparations, we want to make sure that citizens are
informed regarding the City, and Pandemic Influenza. In the event of a
pandemic outbreak, this web page will be updated regularly with
information about city services. However, until then, we encourage you
to visit other sites to learn more on how you can prepare yourself and
your family:
www.Pandemicflu.gov: a great resource on all aspects of pandemic
influenza from information on the nature of the threat, to details on
what each state is doing in regards to influenza. This site is a great
one-stop-shop for pandemic information.
www.codeReady.com: this sight is the result of collaborative work
between Minnesota Department of Health and Department of Public Safety
it provides a simple, useful format for preparing your family for any
type of disaster.
COMMUNITY POLICING
In addition to responding to calls for service from citizens, the department
also strives to improve the safety and security of the community through
a positive cooperative relationship with all community members. A good
deal of this is done through services and programs that have been put
in place to provide needed resources and strengthen this sense of cooperation.
We are constantly looking for ways to enhance the services we provide
to the community.
CRIME PREVENTION
We view our Crime Prevention Program as the cornerstone
of our community policing effort. We are striving to continually
strengthen the program in order to make it a resource to fill the needs
of the community. For more information on crime prevention tips go to:

Dakota Communications Center - 9-1-1
The DCC encourages the use of 9-1-1 for any situation which requires the
response of police, fire or emergency medical personnel. This
includes non-emergency situations such as reporting a crime, a traffic
situation or suspicious activity. The dispatcher will ask
questions to help assure the proper level of responses and assure that
emergencies receive the highest priority. 9-1-1 should not be used
for information-only purposes

911
In Mendota Heights, anyone needing public safety response to an urgent
or emergency situation should dial 911. This includes all crimes in
progress or that have just occurred, medical situations and fire
emergencies.

If you need to contact the Mendota Heights Police
administration or records during normal business hours, you may call
651-452-1366. If you call this number after business office hours
you will be given the option to be transferred to the DCC non emergency

DCC - Communications Center
(Dakota County Sheriff's Communication Center)
The new Communication Center will simplify how you request assistance
from Police, Fire or Medical personnel. In the event you need assistance
from a police officer, fire fighter or paramedic you should call 911
anytime. By calling 911 from your land line anywhere in the county you
will be automatically directed to the appropriate 911 dispatcher at the
new Dakota Communications Center. 911 should be used for any type of
request for service from our first responders, including
non-emergencies. Residents of Mendota Heights no longer need to decide
if they should call 911 or the old non-emergency number. By calling 911,
the dispatch staff will be able to quickly evaluate your need for
service and prioritize it along with any other pending requests in the
community. When you call 911 the system provides the 911 operator
automatically with your name, address, phone number and then prompts
them as to who the appropriate responders are for your location. Using
the 911 system helps speed up the call taking process for the
dispatchers and allows them to start the necessary help more
efficiently, freeing staff to handle the next call for service. If you

On Street Parking
Regulations
The City of Mendota
Heights regulates and enforces parking year round. Two years ago the
ordinance was changed to regulate overnight parking during the potential
snow season. Parking is prohibited on any City street between the hours
of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. from November 1st to March 31st.
To alert and remind residents in advance of this ban, Officers
distributed hundreds of warning flyers to residents and on vehicles
parked on the street in our City. The ordinance is now again in effect
and violators are likely to be cited.
The City of Mendota Heights strives to provide the highest level of
service for the lowest possible cost for it citizens. The Winter Parking
Ordinance assists plow drivers to clear streets to full width quickly
and it increases the ability of your Police Officers to spot something
unusual or out of the ordinary as they drive through our neighborhoods.
Parking overview:
From November 1st
to March 31st, no vehicles may park on the street between 2:00 a.m. and
6:00 a.m.
Violators most
likely will be cited.
When it snows more
than two inches, Mendota Heights will issue a Snow Emergency and
vehicles
need to be off
the street until your street is plowed full-width (does not matter if it
is day or night).
Violators will most
likely be cited and towed.
April 1st October
31st, you may park as many cars as you like on the street
as long as they
move once every 24 hours.
Violators will
generally be cited.
Here are some
other helpful answers to frequent calls regarding parking:
Homeowners can
legally park up to four cars in the driveway (you can not park on your
lawn). The cars must be in running condition, licensed and
insured.
You can legally
park non-running, non-licensed and non-insured cars in your garage.
While it is not
very nice to block a mailbox, it is not illegal.
Leaving
construction supplies or dumpsters in the street fall under the same
regulations as vehicles.
Pet License
Cats are not required to be licensed. Dog licenses can be obtained
by coming to the City Hall between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday
through Friday or by downloading the dog license application form
by clicking
here. You will need proof of rabies vaccination from your
veterinarian.
The cost of dog licensing is:
Female Spayed / Male Neutered $3.00; Female Non-Spayed / Male
Non-Neutered $6.00
The license year runs from May 31 to May 30. Only three dogs over
four months of age are allowed per residential premise.
