FIRE HALL
The Mendota Heights Fire Hall is located at 2121 Dodd Road. This site
houses all fire department administrative and operational services.
The Mendota Heights fire inspector's office is in the City Hall building
at 1101 Victoria Curve.
SERVICES
The Mendota Heights Fire Department provides professional fire and rescue
service to the communities of Mendota Heights, Lilydale, Mendota and
Sunfish Lake, and has been doing so since 1947. In addition to responding
to fire calls, the department also responds to fire alarms, medical
emergencies and vehicle accidents. The expertise and equipment the fire
fighters bring with their response can in many cases, such as vehicle
extrications, make the difference between life and death. The department
is also trained and equipped to respond to hazardous situations such
as spills, leaks, or downed power lines.
STAFFING
The Mendota Heights Fire Department is an all-volunteer fire department
with an authorized strength of 36 fire fighters. This includes the Fire
Chief, the Assistant Chief, four Fire Captains and the Fire Marshal
and four squads of fire fighters. The department is made up of members
of the community. These are people who in most cases have full-time
jobs and commit many extra hours toward public safety in their own community.
In many instances, these people respond to emergencies directly from
their homes and quickly arrive to help those in need.
TRAINING
Every Mendota Heights fire fighter is educated, trained and qualified
in fire and rescue operations. Each fire fighter must complete a 75-hour
Fire Fighter I course in basic fire fighting when joining the department.
More than one-half of the department's fire fighters have gone on to
earn their Fire Fighter II certification. Like the City's police officers,
each member of the fire department is certified as a medical emergency
First Responder.
FIRE PREVENTION
Members of he fire department work hard to educate members of the community
in fire prevention and safety. The department views community education
and awareness to be as important as professional fire operations, and
continually strives to improve the flow of prevention and safety information
to the community.
