Youth Trips


 
SUMMER - YOUTH TRIPS - REGISTER EARLY

The trips listed offer the perfect opportunities for kids with their friends, classmates and siblings to participate in FUN well chaperoned activities.  The trips are co-sponsored with WSP and SSP Park and Rec.  Bus departs from MH City Hall parking lot at time listed.  Please register by mail or in person at City Hall-1101 Victoria Curve, MH, 55118. .  Space is limited and will fill fast.  Mark you calendars now and plan ahead. Registration will close the Monday prior to trips. 
 

THURSDAY, JUNE 12 - VALLEYFAIR (IN SHAKOPEE)
Start the summer off with a day at Valley Fair.  Bring a group of friends!  Don’t forget your swimsuit and towel for the water park!  Bring a bag lunch or money to purchase lunch/snacks.  

Bus departs/returns:  9:05 a.m. /6:15 p.m. 
Cost:  $29.00    
Ages: 10 & older. 

 

THURSDAY, JUNE 19
MN Twins vs. Washington Nationals at the Metrodome

The trip includes RESERVED SEATING in the "Home Run Porch", hot dog and pop, supervision, transportation.  Participants may bring extra money for snacks and enjoy a day at the Park!
 

Bus departs/returns:
Departs at 10:05 a.m. & will return after the game – approx.  3:30 p.m.
Cost: $22.00 /person
Ages: 6 and up

 

THURSDAY, JUNE 26 – “Star Wars”
MN Science Museum & Omni Theater

Star Wars - Where Science Meets Imagination.  Come see the models, props and costumes from all six films on display with real-world technologies in one hands-on, interactive exhibit.  Next we will view the current Omni Showing (TBD) and then we are off to explore the museum after lunch.  Bring your own lunch & beverage. Participants may bring extra money for concessions.  

Bus departs/returns:  9:10 a.m. /3:20 p.m. 
Cost: $21.00/person.     
Ages: 6 & up  
 

THURSDAY, JULY 10 - EDINA AQUATIC CENTER
Come join us for a day of pool fun.  Choose from the twisting body or inner tube flume; glide over the water on a high-flying cable ride; plunge from a three meter diving board; splash and play in a zero-depth children's pool or slide from a magical tree house.  Trip  includes supervision, admission, and transportation.  Bring a bag lunch (which we will eat at the park before we enter the pool), swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, change of clothes, and extra money for concessions.   

Bus departs/returns: Departs at 10:10 a.m. & returns at 4:30 p.m. 
Cost: $15.00/person.
Ages:  7 & up. 

 

THURSDAY, JULY 17 - CASCADE BAY
Come join us for a day of water slides and lounge in the lazy river. Includes supervision, admission, transportation, lunch (hot dog, chips, & beverage).  Bring swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, change of clothes, and extra money for concessions.

Bus departs/returns: 10:25 a.m./3:55 p.m.  
Cost: $19.00 
Ages: 8 and up.

 

THURSDAY, JULY 24 - APPLE VALLEY AQUATIC PARK
Cool off in this huge pool full of activities from thrilling waterslides to a sand and water play area.  Bring a bag lunch, your swimsuit, towel and sunscreen!  You may bring extra money for concessions if you like. 

Bus departs/returns:  10:25 a.m./3:30 p.m.   
Cost:  $15.00    
Ages:  7 and up

 

THURSDAY, JULY 31 - MENDOTA HEIGHTS & WEST ST. PAUL PARK & REC. DAY AT THE WSP POOL
Have your parents drop you off at the WSP pool at 92 West Orme at 10 a.m.  We will start the day with fun games, activities and prizes outside of the pool in the morning.  We will provide a picnic lunch followed by swimming from noon to 3 pm.  We will also provide an afternoon snack during one of the pool breaks.  We will provide chaperones up until 3pm so please pick up your child by this time. Remember your towel, change of clothes, sunscreen and extra money if you want to purchase concessions.


Program time: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (No Bus, meet at WSP Pool)
Cost: $8.00

Tennis

Join your FRIENDS, join the FUN, get and stay FIT. ‘Play AND learn’ via a proven national program, ‘Quick Start’ tennis. Our tennis programs are ‘Games Based’. In 2008, we will institute ‘Quick Start’ which was rolled out in Nov. ’07 by the major, national tennis organizations, USTA, USPTA and PTR. For the sixth consecutive year, our Director, Tim Garvey, a local area USPTA Certified Tennis Teaching Professional will run our program. Tim Garvey is an active, certified member, instructor/coach, speaker & author on teaching, playing, learning & enjoying the game of tennis.
Program Schedule: (6) Weeks - June 9-24, All classes M, T, W, (except Littles Tennis see below).
No Classes: June 30 to July 4, Holiday Break. T-Shirt included in all programs! Cancellations/Bad Weather: Call the Tennis Hotline (651) 255-1174 One Half Hour before your session.
Rainouts: None *we added a fun & games/picnic day on Thurs., July 24 from 11 am – 1 pm to cover any rainouts

Little Tennis - Youth ages 4-7 years old (40 minute lessons once a week). Introduce your young child to tennis! Mini nets & other teaching aids will be used to gear this program to your child’s age level. (A parent/chaperone must stay with child during lesson-you may coordinate with another parent in your class to help with your child if you are unable to stay.) Dates: Thursdays, June 12-July 24 (no class July 3-no rainout/makeups) Times: Littles I-8:30 – 9:10 a.m. Littles II- 9:15-9:55 a.m. Littles III-10:00-10:40 a.m. Cost: $45

Beginner Tennis Lessons for Youth Ages 8-10 years old - With the new Quick Start program beginners will have fun and learn how to play tennis. They will learn sportsmanship, general etiquette and develop strokes through this program. Participants will need tennis shoes and a tennis racquet. Times: Session I- 8:30 – 9:25 a.m. Session II- 9:30 – 10:25 a.m.
Cost: $75
Intermediate Lessons for Youth ages 10 – 14 years old - This program is for youth who have had some tennis experience. Tim and his assistants will take them to the next level of training. You will work with the instructors at your level of play not age. Times: Session III-9:30 – 10:25 a.m. Session IV-10:30 – 11:25 a.m.
Cost: $75
Intermediate/Advanced Lessons for Youth ages 12 – 14 years old - This program is for youth with previous tennis experience or participated in our tennis program last year. These lessons will take them to the next level of training. You will work with the instructors at your level of play, not age. Times: Session V-11:30 a.m. -12:25 p.m.
Cost: $75

In House League Play Ages 12-14 years old - You will need to qualify for this program and will be evaluated your first day. If Tim feels you are not ready for this program your money will be refunded or you can be moved into Session V @ 11:30 a.m. Cost: $75
Time: 11:45 a.m. -12:45 p.m.

Traveling Tennis Team – A competitive program for ages 11-14 years.

Playing old time hits and big band sound. *If it rains, this concert will be moved across the street in the Mendota Heights Fire Hall.

 


Music & Movie In The Park -
Village at Mendota Heights - Market Square
 The City of Mendota Heights Park and Recreation along with Schaeffer Financial and the businesses of the Village at Mendota Heights invite you and your family, friends and neighbors to Market Square to Music and Movie Nights. Please bring your own lawn chairs, blankets and bug spray.
  Friday, June 6th - 7-9 p.m. Enjoy the Cajun/Blues sound of the “Swamp Kings” Immediately following the band approximately 9 p.m. enjoy the original “SHREK “ movie on a HUGE outdoor movie screen.
  Friday, July 18th - 7-9p.m. Come listen, dance and sing along to the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s sounds of the band “6 Below”. Immediately following approximately 9 p.m. watch the movie “Shrek 2” shown on our huge outdoor movie screen. In case of rain events will be cancelled.

 


Summer Playhouse
  Presents “Junie B and Kids Like Me” a traveling variety show which will be making appearances at both Marie and Friendly Hills Parks this summer. This group will provide creative, quality performances free of charge. The shows will include: choreographed performances, puppet shows, songs and dances.
  Performances last approximately thirty minutes and are designed to entertain families with young children. Performances will not be held if it is raining. Feel free to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets to sit on.

Mendota Heights Par 3 - Golf Programs
Registrations for all golf programs held at Mendota Par 3 are accepted only at the City of Mendota Heights Offices (1101 Victoria Curve). When you register you may choose your tee-time or we will assign you one. Registration closes for all leagues, lessons and camps one week prior to start date. If you have a group of friends, family or co-workers and would like to schedule your own private lessons with the Par 3 please call the Mendota Heights Par 3 at 651-454-9822.

Junior Golf League boys and girls ages 6-15
Junior golfers are expected to acknowledge golf course rules.
Fee: $100.00 (Must pre-pay for all 11 weeks. No play June 30, July 2) Add $5.00 for non-resident fee.
Monday morning league: Boys &/or Girls June 09 - Aug. 22.
Tee times start 8:30 a.m.
Wednesday morning league: Boys &/or Girls June 11 - Aug. 24.

Golf Lessons:
Three 1-hour lessons covering golf course etiquette, golf club grip, stance, swing and correct putting techniques. There will be one teaching professional to every 8 golfers, giving personalized instruction. Each participant will receive 2 free rounds of golf. Rainouts will be rescheduled.

Fee:    Juniors: $53 (Ages 6 and up)
           Parent/Child: $96.00 (one fee for both)
           Adult lessons: $53

Mendota Heights Par 3 Youth Golf Camps
Golf camp participants will learn putting, chipping, full swing techniques, and receive on-course instruction during four fun-filled days. Each golfer will need a golf bag, putter, and at least three size appropriate clubs. Each golfer will receive a pass for one free round of golf. Camps run from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. for morning sessions or from Noon – 3 p.m. for afternoon sessions (limit 9 students per camp).
Ages: 6 - 13. All Skill Levels (you will be put with your level)

2008 - Safety Camp 
 This experience will last your child a lifetime. Don’t miss out on this camp - it’s our 17th Year! Children entering the 3rd & 4th grades in the fall of 2008 can sign up now for Safety Camp 2008. Children will learn how to reduce the risk of accidents and increase safety of their everyday lives. They have lots of fun and meet new and interesting people. Instructors of the camp are volunteers from local police & fire departments, utility companies, paramedics as well as other professionals whose jobs deal with personal and public safety. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt.
  Topics such as stranger safety, weather safety, drug awareness, animal safety, home safety and first aid are just some of the areas that will be addressed. At the conclusion of the camp on Thursday, campers can return that evening with their families for a family picnic with hotdogs, chips and beverages. The camp is sponsored by the VFW Gallagher Hanson Post 295 of South St. Paul.
      AGES: Children entering the 3rd & 4th grades in the fall of 2008.
      DATES: August 12, 13, & 14th
      LOCATION: Kaposia Park (Located at Wilde and Butler Avenues in
      South St. Paul). TIME: 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. *Parents need to pick up
      and drop off their children at Kaposia Park.
      FEE: $20/per participant.
   All lunches and snacks are provided! Enrollment is limited and fills very fast. You must be pre-registered at MH City Hall for this camp. Please arrive at Kaposia Park in S.S.P - 30 minutes early on the first day of camp only (7:30 a.m.) to check-in; opening ceremony starts at 8:00 a.m. Remember to dress for the weather (enclosed pavilion available in case of rain) and remember to bring sunscreen and bug spray!

 


3rd Lair Skateboard Camp
For the expert to beginner and everyone in between. The 3rd Lair instructors are very experienced in the sport and have years of teaching knowledge. Equipment needed for camp: skateboard and helmet. Knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards are recommended. If raining please meet under the pavilion.

Date: One week camp from Monday, July 28 to Friday, August 1st.
Time: 9 am to noon
Cost: $160.00
Ages: All ages (grouped by ability)
Location: Roger's Lake Skate Park

Special Olympics
The SOUTH REGION “STARS: TEAM of Area 12

The South Region “Stars” Special Olympics Team is open to individuals who reside in South St. Paul, West St. Paul, and Mendota Heights. The team is active year-round, offering many different sports and activities. To become a member of this team, contact the closest Parks & Recreation Department: West St. Paul @ 651-552-4150; Mendota Heights @ 651-452-1850; and South St. Paul @651-306-3690.  Information will then be mailed out to all interested participants.

   Attention Older Adults in Mendota Heights!  If you are looking for activities and fun check out THOMPSON PARK ACTIVITY CENTER located at 1200 Stassen Lane (off Butler and Highway 52) in West St. Paul. This is our area (District 197 Community Education) 55+ center and Mendota Heights residents are welcome to join classes or take part in any of the activities.

  When the boys are off for fishing opener we invite the girls to TPAC. We invite grandmothers, daughters, mothers, Aunts, Sisters and Nieces. A wonderful tribute to “Mother’s Day” Bring your favorite Tea Cup and join Mendota Heights Park and Rec along with TPAC, WSP, SSP and IGH Senior Centers for the first annual “Tea for Generations”. Bring all of your generations of family and enjoy tea, finger sandwiches, sweets and enjoy some entertainment. Bring out grandma’s hats, gloves and your Sunday finery. Please pre-register at MH City Hall.

Registration Information
   Deadlines. Most activities have limited enrollment, registration deadlines, and fill quickly. Please register as soon as possible. Registrations will NOT be taken over the phone.
   Non-resident Fee. Non-residents are welcomed to participate in our programs; however, residents will receive priority registration. There is a $5.00 non-resident fee per participant per activity if you live outside Mendota Heights. Exception: youth trip participants will not be charged a non-resident fee. Please include the non-resident fee with regular registration costs when enrolling.
   Refund Policy. A $5 service fee will be charged for individual cancellations made prior to the start of a program or its registration deadline date, if enrollment allows, with the exception of being on a participant waiting list. No refunds will be given after registration deadlines or the start of an activity. Registration fees for programs canceled by the City will be fully refunded.
   Confirmation. There will be no further confirmation after registration. It is your responsibility to be present on the date and time your program begins. You will receive notification if a program is filled, canceled, or changed.
   Participants With Disabilities. Participants with disabilities who are in need of any special assistance or auxiliary aids should notify the Parks and Rec Department at the time of registration to ensure that any need can be met to fully participate and enjoy a program or service.
